The Azura EP

This spring, one of my favorite hip hop groups CunninLynguists finally came out with a new EP, “The Rose EP” which I wrote about here. It’s part of a series of three EPs, and the second part was released in late July containing another three tracks.
Production, mixing, and mastering was done by Kno again with cuts from DJ FlipFlop who has been working with the group for several years now. This time, Kno also delivers a verse on the final track of the EP. The illustration is brought to us from Geneva B once more and matches The Rose EP. Instead of fire and a red bird, the same lady is accompanied by a blue bird and rain and holds an umbrella to shield herself from the rain.

Where The Rose EP was a fiery commentary on social and political justice issues, such as racism and protests against police brutality, The Azura EP is more spiritual in its approach. It still mentions politics and social justice but has a strong emphasis on the afterlife. The passion of The Rose EP gives way to depressive and more pessimistic thoughts on The Azura EP. The blue theme of the EP is most apparent on the final track “Any Way the Wind Blows” which introduces us to a young suicidal female and her cousin. The lyrics in combination with Kno’s well-known melancholic sound create a gloomy atmosphere. As per usual, The Azura EP is masterfully executed. Now it’s time to wait for what will probably be The Njano EP based on the color yellow.

Tracklisting:
1. Violet (The Upper Room)
2. Gone [featuring Trizz]
3. Any Way the Wind Blows

You can stream The Azura EP for free on CunninLynguist‘s Bandcamp page or decide on your own how much you’re willing to pay to support this project. However, do it fast because once The Azura EP went up, The Rose EP disappeared which probably means that The Azura EP will be taken down once The Njano EP goes up.
