I recently wrote about my makeup favorites
and posted a more general review of vegan and cruelty-free beauty products
. In the interest of transparency, I think it’s also worth talking about products I absolutely dislike. Not because whether or not I love or hate a product says anything about the actual quality of the product, but because I think that if I explain why
I don’t like a certain product it might save other people a bit of time and money.
Fortunately, I have pretty much eliminated awful products from my bathroom by now. I’m more careful with what I purchase these days, but, in the past, I have made some purchases that I regretted afterwards.
Korres – Wild Rose Concealer
My undereye bags are quite bad so I realized a long time ago that no matter how well a concealer claims to hide circles and bags it never fully does. However, a good concealer can make a difference. I’m currently using the Black Pine Concealer by Korres which is a pretty decent concealer, but a few years ago I tried the Wild Rose Concealer by the same brand. The first problem with this concealer is that it comes in one of those pens you have to twist until the product comes out. Well, you click and nothing happens. Then you do it a few more times until, eventually, a huge amount of product comes out – more than you need. The product itself is pretty sheer which is not exactly useful in a concealer (I mean, if your skin is perfect you don’t need to use concealer in the first place). It is also too liquid and doesn’t set properly. Because it’s so hard to get the right amount of product out it runs out quite quickly so in the end you buy a product that doesn’t really conceal and is finished within a few weeks.
Kingfisher – Aloe Vera, Tea Tree, Fennel Toothpaste
This toothpaste is pure evil. It tastes absolutely horrible, and gave me a tingly feeling in my mouth. I am not sensitive at all, and can handle super spicy food, but there is something in this toothpaste that I don’t react well to. I also had to use a lot of product because it somehow disappears within seconds. I used this once and will hopefully never have to buy it again. I honestly never thought a toothpaste could be so bad that I would write about it.
lavera – Natural Concealer
Another bad concealer, not as bad as the one from Korres, but still largely ineffective as it’s not pigmented enough to cover undereye circles. It doesn’t last very long either so essentially you’re applying quite a sheer product to begin with which then disappears completely. It’s a natural and organic product, but I still think we should have higher standards for the products we spend our money on.
As I said, I don’t really have any products I hate at the moment, but let me know in the comments if there’s something you regret buying.
