Holiday Wish List

This post was last updated on January 28th, 2019

It’s that time of the year again when everyone is preparing for the holiday season. Christmas decorations are everywhere and people are starting to think about gifts to buy for the people in their lives. Even here in Greece, where Easter is a bigger holiday than Christmas, public places and stores are already decorated.
As a Muslim, I don’t celebrate Christmas, but my birthday falls on December 28th, and New Year’s Eve is special to me, because in Bulgaria it replaced religious holidays, uniting Bulgarians of all faiths, so my father always liked this holiday.
If you’re still unsure of what to get some of your loved ones, no matter if for a holiday, birthday, or no reason at all, maybe my holiday wish list can give you some inspiration. And let’s not forget that holiday gift lists can also serve as a reminder of things to buy for ourselves in the next months, which is surely what I will be doing with some of the items on this list.

I’ve been eyeing these Oxford shoes from Golden Ponies for a while now, but, unfortunately, it’s not possible to purchase them from Greece because the Golden Ponies website as well as Etsy process payment via PayPal which doesn’t work in Greece due to capital controls.
Golden Ponies has all their products manufactured by individual craftsmen in Guadalajara, Mexico, so you’re actually supporting somebody’s livelihood. Every pair of shoes is handmade. I love the pink pair of oxfords, but there are several shoes in their catalog that I would like to have.

I’ve been wanting to get a camera for years. I have a somewhat decent point-and-shoot camera which I never use because my smartphone actually takes better pictures by now. I’ve always been afraid of investing money in a “real” camera because I was never sure I was going to be able to learn how to use it, but, in the age of YouTube tutorials, learning photography should be easier than ever, so after some online research and asking people who actually know what they are doing (check out www.instagram.com/bacefi/) I’ve decided to get the Nikon D3300 in red with a Tamron lens.

With the temperatures steadily dropping, I need a winter coat and I really like this one by Miss Candyfloss. Unfortunately, right now it’s not available in S, but I might just go for the M. With winter jackets and coats, it’s always good to size up because of the thicker clothes you’ll be wearing underneath. All Miss Candyfloss clothes are made under fair conditions in Romania.

As far as makeup is concerned I would like to get the Too Faced Primed and Poreless Powder. It’s vegan and cruelty-free, so no animal had to suffer for human vanity.

I could also use this foundation brush by The Body Shop.

And for anyone who’s not into physical gifts but would like to give an experience, a visit to the hammam is amazing. There’s no better way to relax than the quiet atmosphere at the hammam and a massage followed up by lokum and a tea. You can get a gift card for somebody and surprise them with this wonderful experience.

Since winter is approaching, I am also looking for a pair of flat vegan ankle boots, as boots are not really necessary here in Athens. However, I have not yet found anything I like. The same goes for some colorful tights, right now I only have black ones which kind of restrict my outfit options this fall and winter.

Is there anything on this list that you would like?
