I’m finally getting on YouTube! In this video, I’m taking you to the Sea Turtle Rescue Centre which is run by ARCHELON – The Sea Turtle Protection Society of Greece.
We learned a lot about the current situation of sea turtles near the Athens coast.
We saw injured turtles in black tubs and found out about the reasons for their injuries.
We observed the turtles in the outdoor tubs who will soon be released into the sea again.
We learned more about the damage that plastic and fishing cause to this beautiful species.
I had been wanting to visit the Sea Turtle Rescue Centre ever since I moved to Athens seven years ago, and I’m so glad I finally got a chance to see firsthand the efforts the volunteers make.
In any case, I hope the short video gives you an idea of the work that the turtle project Archelon does. If you decide to visit Athens and have the time I think a day trip to the suburb of Glyfada to see the Sea Turtle Rescue Centre is absolutely worth it (plus, it’s really close to Avit, one of the best vegan restaurants in Athens).
The information you get on the visit will really help you understand the impact of human activity on sea turtles.
If you like the video please help me out:

And please share the video with anyone who is planning a trip to Athens.
A final note: I still don’t think traveling is particularly safe right now because most of the world’s population has not been vaccinated yet. I know we all want our lives to get back to normal but please be cautious. However, if you do choose to travel to Greece now or in the future keep the Sea Turtle Rescue Centre in mind for a visit.
Tourists to Greece love to enjoy the gorgeous beaches but mass tourism has its effects on these beautiful creatures. Keep that in mind when you enjoy the Mediterranean coastlines: Don’t leave any trash on the beach, don’t consume seafood, and try to make a donation to this amazing organization.
Have you ever been to an animal rescue center?
